Apple has recently announced the newly released in iPhone firmware v2.1 and iTunes 8 Genius feature that allows one to automatically make playlists of his/her music, which should create playlists of similar music based on the genre, tempo, and other iTunes suggestions.
Below is a guide that will allow you to easily use your iPhone’s Genius feature. In order to use this feature one will need to:
#1) Install iTunes 8.
#2) Activate the “Genius” feature via your iTunes.
#3) Install iPhone firmware v2.1.
#4) Sync your iPhone with iTunes.
#5) Launch the iPod music player in your iPhone.
#6) Tap on “Playlists”.
#7) Tap on “Genius”.
#8) Now you are able to choose songs to make “Genius playlists” from.
#9) After selecting the song you’d like to use as your song seed, tap on “Save” if you’re satisfied with the results.
#10) Select your newly created iPhone Genius playlist.

If you’ve followed all the steps above you should now have some new playlists that you could play on your iPhone. Note: iPhone generated playlists only include 25 songs maximum…. In order to make longer playlists (up to 100 songs), generate them through your iTunes 8 and desktop computer.
