Can your iPhone be unlocked (easily)? Checking iPhone firmware version.

At the time of writing this guide ALL currently released iPhone firmware versions can be easily jailbreaked.

However iOS 4.2.1 /iOS 4.1 can ONLY be unlocked on iPhone 3G/3GS, while iOS iPhone 4 4.1 can only be unlocked if you have an older baseband (and iPhone 4 can’t be unlocked on iOS 4.2.1). At the same time iOS 4.01 and anything below it CAN be unlocked no problem.

Currently available iPhone firmware versions range from v1.0 to v4.2.1. Just in case you’re not sure what iPhone firmware version you have, follow the instructions below.

How to check iPhone firmware version?

Once you start up your iPhone in:

#1 Emergency mode == it was not activated yet, write *3001#12345#* and tap on “versions”.
#2 If your phone is already working, you can check the Settings -> About screen to see your firmware version to get the same information as in #1.

…if your firmware’s version is v1.0.0 through v4.0.2 (inclusively) on iPhone 2G, 3G 3GS — you’re in luck – you can both jailbreak and unlock your device! If you have an iPhone 4 and iOS 4.01 or below it can be both jailbreaked and unlocked – anything above that can be only jailbreaked. Proceed to the next step.

I was using an unlocked 2G iphone for the past 1 year. Then I upgraded it by downloading 3.0.1 and it got locked. I was hoping that I will be able to unlock it. But after repeated attempt I am not successful. I tried many times to jailbreak it with redsn0w 8.0 but it does not go beyond “please wait while your phone is jailbroken” The Harddrive and arrow never shows on the screen. Can someone suggest what I might be doing wrong. I have tried selecting —- iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw & iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw but non of them work. Am I using the wrong Firmware?????? Pl. HELP Thanks……… vimit
