iPhone 3G / 3GS jailbreak / unlock guide for v3.0.x firmware
If you’re attempting to jailbreak and/or unlock an Apple iPhone 3G (second generation device released in 2008) or an Apple iPhone 3GS (third generation device released in 2009) of any sort (8GB/16GB/32GB) with the new iPhone firmware v3.0/v3.0.1, this guide is for you.
You’ll need to install only one tool on your computer, called redsnow. You can download redsn0w for Windows/Mac/Linux by clicking here.
So before we start, download and install this on your computer.
Also you’ll need WiFi internet service to complete the last step of the process… So before you proceed make sure you have a WiFi internet network nearby.
#1 Download v3.0.1 (or v3.0 if you want to for some reason?) .IPSW firmware file for iPhone 2G here.
Attention as to step #1: if you’re using the Safari browser to download the .IPSW file, make sure to manually rename it to .ipsw extension (for some unknown reason it will be saved as .zip) before you proceed to step #2.
#2 Upgrade your iPhone’s firmware to v3.0.1 (or v3.0?) via iTunes… Just hold your “shift” button while you click on “update firmware” in iTunes option and then select the file that you’ve previously saved in step #1 so you won’t have to redownload it via iTunes again.
#3 You might need to download these bootloaders here…. Do it just in case.
#4 Run redsn0w, select the newly downloaded .IPSW file. Follow instructions on screen. Select firmware v3.0 even if you’re trying to install v3.0.1 (there’s just no option for v3.0.1 there though the software is 100% compatible with it).
Attention as to step #4: if you’re asked for a bootloader, look back to step #3.
#5 Make sure you select to install Cydia when you’ll be given this option. This installer program allows you to install other programs for jailbreaked iPhones.
#6 Allow the whole process to complete.
#7 Upon the next reboot your iPhone should be jailbreaked.
#8 If there’s a problem, try to rerun the whole procedure from the start.
#9 Run Cydia in Hacker mode on your iPhone. (that was supposed to be installed in step #5).
#10 Add the repo repo666.ultrasn0w.com to your sources list. That last “o” is actually the number zero “0”! If you use the letter “o” you’ll get an error.
#11 Search for ‘ultrasn0w’ in cydia and install it (once again, that “o” is actually a “0″ = zero)
#12 Wait for all processes to complete, then reboot your iPhone
NOTE #1: important note to remember #1 is that you should have enough battery life for at least 30 minutes for the whole process to complete. Otherwise you could end up with a brick, if the battery runs out in the middle of the process. Unbricking it will be from hard to impossible, so you’ve been warned.
NOTE #2: important note to remember #2 please DO NOT interrupt any of the processes. At times it might look like your iPhone is frozen, but it isn’t. The final reboot itself will take no less than 5 minutes.
NOTE #3: if there’s some problem first read these notes / tips, then you can ask for help by replying to this post..
