Restore, Repair iPhone firmware (Windows)
So you’ve tried all the different fixes out there, but your iPhone still does not catch a signal, does not want to accept or make phone calls, or simply doesn’t work right after unlocking it. You tried everything, to no avail.
At this stage what you need to do is restore your iPhone to its original, unmodified firmware, and try the same process again.
In order to repair your iPhone’s firmware you can follow two ways: the short one, and the long one. The short one consists of a simple “recovery mode” which will only restore the firmware, while the long one will restore your iPhone to completely default factory settings (erasing all settings, programs, etc…). To proceed:
Simple repair
#1) Download and install ZiPhone (make sure you select the Windows version). You will need to have Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 installed in order to run this program.
#2) Download and install iTunes (make sure you select the Windows version).
#3) Connect your iPhone to your computer via provided USB cable.
#4) Wait for Windows to find your iPhone — you will see a message informing you that Windows found the iPhone.
#5) Launch ZiPhone.

#6) Click on “Advanced Features”.
#7) Click on “Recovery Mode”
Now your iTunes will be launched, prompting you to restore your iPhone. You can either click on “restore” to restore to the latest available firmware version, or hold down the SHIFT button and press on restore. The latter will allow you to manually select the firmware version you’d like to restore to…. you can download them below:
- iPhone 1.0.0 firmware
- iPhone 1.0.1 firmware
- iPhone 1.0.2 firmware
- iPhone 1.1.1 firmware
- iPhone 1.1.2 firmware
- iPhone 1.1.3 firmware
- iPhone 1.1.4 firmware
The restore will take a while, so make sure your iPhone is well charged… You really don’t want it freezing in the middle of the process. Once everything is done, you can try the unlock process again.
If after trying to unlock your iPhone it does not work again, follow the same procedure, but this time around, after you restored the firmware and connect your iPhone to your computer and it asks you to “sync” your iPhone, do not sync it, and make a new profile. That should do the trick.
…but if this fails as well, proceed to the DFU Mode restore (below).

DFU Mode restore
#1) Download and install ZiPhone (make sure you select the Windows version). You will need to have Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 installed in order to run this program.
#2) Download and install iTunes (make sure you select the Windows version).
#3) Connect your iPhone to your computer via provided USB cable.
#4) Wait for Windows to find your iPhone — you will see a message informing you that Windows found the iPhone.
#5) Launch ZiPhone.
#6) Click on “Advanced Features”.
#7) Click on “DFU Mode”
Now your iTunes will be launched, prompting you to restore your iPhone. You can either click on “restore” to restore to the latest available firmware version, or hold down the SHIFT button and press on restore. The latter will allow you to manually select the firmware version you’d like to restore to…. you can download them below:
- iPhone 1.0.0 firmware
- iPhone 1.0.1 firmware
- iPhone 1.0.2 firmware
- iPhone 1.1.1 firmware
- iPhone 1.1.2 firmware
- iPhone 1.1.3 firmware
- iPhone 1.1.4 firmware
The DFU mode restore will take a long while, since all data from your iPhone will be erased… As such make sure that your iPhone is well charged… You really don’t want it freezing in the middle of the process. Once everything is done, you can try the unlock process again.
Everything should work fine now.
