If you’re anything like me, you need a reliable backup power source for your iPhone. A decent amount of calling, listening to music, and using wi-fi can really take a toll on your battery. I use my iPhone fairly heavily to email, listen to music in and out of the car, and every so often, make a call. There are quite a few different options on the market right now to extend your battery. Many of them double as a temporary case. The RichardSolo 1800 is not one of those but still gets the job done.

RichardSolo has come up with a neat little battery device to use when needed. Its total length is about the same as the iPhone and it is a little bit narrower and thinner. Easily something you can throw in your pocket, although not necessarily the same pocket as your iPhone. If you’re like me, you are a little paranoid, and your iPhone has its own pocket, and nothing else enters, save for the softest objects!
This battery has a capacity of 1800mAh, which decent. This will give you more than a full charge of your iPhone. The battery clips onto the dock connector and immediately starts to charge the device. Blue status LED’s let you know it is charging. I liked that it actually locks onto the device. To release it, there are two buttons to squeeze and it comes off easily. If you have a iPhone 3G or 2G, there is a stability connector provided. This is a nice touch, since it wouldn’t be too hard to accidentally bend something.
This battery comes equipped with a wall and car adaptor, as well as a retractable USB to mini USB cable for charging. Additionally, the battery has a built-in laser pointer and light. The light doesn’t have much on the FastMac iV reviewed earlier, but is still better than nothing if it’s dark.
Once connected, it’s not too feasible to put in your pocket. That being said, the RichardSolo 1800 makes for a great tool to top up your battery when needed. You can easily throw it in a pocket or your backpack or briefcase and pull it out for quick use. An additional benefit is, unlike the case batteries, this one is compatible with all iPods and iPhones with the Apple dock connector. If you’re looking for a battery that can charge both iPods and iPhones, take a look at the RichardSolo 1800. They even offer FREE shipping to Canada!
