There aren’t many cases that wow me anymore, but I have to say that this one does. Speck makes cases for a variety of products, including the iPhone 3G and their products seem to be top notch.
The CandyShell is exactly what Speck advertises it to be: Hard shell, Soft center, Sweet looks. They sent me the green/grey combination case. These colors go quite well together and combine for a sweet look.
The case is one piece and to get the iPhone into it you slide the top in and snap in the bottom. The case is an extremely tight fit, so much so that it takes a fair amount of effort to get it off! The case offers great protection, with the hard, glossy shell surrounding the back and sides of the phone. The volume buttons, vibrate switch, headphone port, camera and sleep buttons are all accessible. There is also a hole for the dock connector to be plugged in. The top rim of the case is green which borders the phone and looks really cool.
When I think durability, I’m thinking, ‘how would I feel if I dropped my iPhone in this case.’ Although I would never be thrilled about dropping my iPhone anytime, I would have pretty good confidence in this case to protect as long as it wasn’t directly on concrete. It’s a very sturdy case and doesn’t bend much even with the iPhone out of it.
I’ve had numerous compliments on it and has become one of my main cases that I use. The one downside is that to push the sleep and volume buttons, you do so through a layer of protective covering. The feeling of pushing a button is not there. It is hard to tell that you’re actually hitting the sleep or volume button other than seeing things change on the screen.
These small issues aside, this case is great looking, protects well, and is a very reasonable price, coming in at only $35. There are 4 different color combinations to choose from! Check them out.
