I use Photoshop on my PC all the time (mainly to put my friends faces on gorillas and the like). But what if I want to procrastinate while I’m away from my computer? That’s where PhotoForge comes in.
Choosing an image to edit is just matter of pressing the folder icon and choosing a photo from your gallery, or taking a new photo with the camera. Or, alternatively, you can start with a blank canvas and work with that, MSpaint style. All the tools you would expect from good photo editing software are there: magnify, paintbrush, eraser, fill, colour picker, smudge and clone. The paintbrush tool has a slider to change the size of the brush as well as different patterns for painting with. The clone tool is a great feature to have - a lot of the image editing apps for the iPhone seem to miss this feature, and on PhotoForge, is works brilliantly.

PhotoForge also has some adjustment tools such as blur, sharpen and curves (which includes adjustments for brightness and contrast within it). The interface is easy to use and all the tools work exactly as expected. In the main iPhone settings under PhotoForge, you can also set the maximum resolution output for images created in the app, from 640px to 1600px. Below you can see what I did to one of my photos in PhotoForge, albeit with a slight overuse of the smudge tool.

PhotoForge really is the iPhone version of Photoshop (until Adobe decide to make their own) and is totally worth the money. And as I write this review PhotoForge is on sale for $1.99 (normally $4.99) so now is a great time to get it before the next update.
