Ipocket Draw is almost a good app.
I wish it was complete as I really love vector drawing and drafting programs (anyone remember the old gcadd? ) unfortunately, it doesn’t feel quite finished yet.

The drawing part is pretty well put together for making simple vector based drawings. You can draw basic shapes, lines, and add text, changing the colors and line widths and reshaping them with simple points (no full bezier points with dynamic handles, however). You can select individual shapes and move them around and delete them.

But alas, there are problems with the interface for saving drawings, and more importantly, problems with the implementation of transferring the drawings to your workstation and other programs.

You can email drawings as either a DXF file or a RealCadd file.
I sent myself a copy in both formats to see what I would get, but sadly, what you send via email is a text string of the vector information that you must then :

“Select lines from line 0/SECTION to line EOF
Copy and paste them in a word processor and save them as a text file
On the finder, select the file and change its extension as .dxf
After that, you can open it with a CAD software which opens DXF files
If you use RealCADD, simply select and copy the same lines and launch RealCADD”

Sorry, but I haven’t had to copy and paste a line of code since the early 80’s to run a program to draw circles on my old RadioShack computer.

I need to be able to simply open up a file, not jump through hoops to make this a tool I can use as a tool, not a toy. And the need to be able to save as a .jpeg or something similar is very important in order to send the drawings to the less technical drawing oriented.

At this point in the app’s development, I’m going to have to say to stick with their lite version where you can’t save your files, but can still play with vector drawings, and wait until this promising program fulfills more of its promise.

Score: ? out of 10
