Taxi Jam is another game in the ‘direct vehicles but don’t let them crash’ genre, similar to Harbor Master, Flight Control and Car Mania, that I reviewed last week.

In Taxi Jam you send your taxis out from the rank to pick up passengers and drop them off at their destination. You can send out as many, or as few taxis as you feel you need. Passengers are picked up when you route a taxi to park next to them and, once a taxi is occupied, a coloured ring will appear around the taxi, which corresponds to coloured destination areas on the map. If you leave passengers waiting too long, you lose one of your five lives (shown in the top left corner. Crashing occupied taxis also results in a lost life.

Whilst playing, a blue and red flashing route line will appear, as well as siren noises. This mean an emergency vehicle is coming through so if any of your taxis get in the way, that’s another life gone. As you progress through the game, the amount of passengers, as well as destinations increase. There are three different levels in Taxi Jam - New York, London and Paris. Each level has nicely rendered landmarks (such as the London Eye for London), which really shows a lot of effort on the developers part. Unlike Car Mania, you can’t listen to your own music whilst playing, which is something I would like to see. Taxi Jam is a lot harder than other similar games, but this only makes it more addictive. Another really nice feature, is the ability to play the game in landscape or portrait mode, something which seem to be missing from a lot of games.
Beautiful graphics, great fun and highly addictive.

Score:
9.5 out of 10
