The 1337 is a case specifically designed for and by 1337 (Leet) gamers. It features a built up backside for gaming handholds. Unfortunately, unless you’re a hardcore gamer, this case probably won’t appeal too much to you.

Like many of Incipio’s other cases, this one is silicon based as well. Unlike many of the other ones, it has large, built up grips on the back of it. This allows for something solid to grab onto when playing games in landscape mode. It works well for that purpose. If there’s no case on my iPhone and I’m playing a game, I find it quite difficult holding it and still using my thumbs. It’s a ginger process and you almost always wind up having it slip or covering up the screen with your fingers by accident. With the 1337, none of this happens, the screen is wide open to see and use.
The case covers all the buttons and switches but still lets you push them through it. It’s a little bit harder to push the buttons through the case than I’d like as it’s a bit thicker than most. On the plus side, that means it’s more well-protected. There’s a cutout for the camera, headphone jack, dock connector and vibrate switch. Toggling the vibrate switch is a bit of a mission. It’s buried deep inside the hole and really tough to get at. Getting it off vibrate is harder than putting it on vibrate.

The case does a good job of protecting the phone and since it’s so built up on the back, it would probably take a fall pretty well. It comes with 2 surface protectors and a cleaning cloth to keep the screen free from blemishes as well.

Everything considered, I don’t find this case very usable as an everyday case. It is just too bulky. It’s hard to get in and out of your pocket. It might be worth it to have if you plan on having hour long gaming sessions regularly, and just throw it on for that. Otherwise, look at something that will be a little more practical for the times you’re not playing games.
