Image S2m In-Ear Headset with Mic Headphones
Price: $59.99

I think I did this backwards. I reviewed the Klipsch S4 earphones (love them) followed by the X10 earphones (REALLY love them). So I thought I was setting myself up for disappointment with the Image S2m headset. After all, they are the most inexpensive models that Klipsch sells either with or without a mic. So I wasn’t expecting much.
But actually, these earphones are quite nice. Granted, they’re not in the same class as the X10s, but for 60 bucks (with a mic!), I ain’t complaining. They are pleasant in the bass department with enough ‘oomph’ for bassheads and satisfying midranges although a bit weak in the highs. They use the same buds as the uber-cool X10s so they are extremely comfortable offering a great seal resulting in excellent sound isolation (in fact, a good seal is everything to getting descent bass). The tubular body is hard plastic with a soft rubber end leading to the cord which makes for a flexible connection. Also included is a snap-shut carrying bag and 3 sizes of silicone tips.

They do really look pretty cool. In fact, I think they even look better than the Image S4s, even if they don’t sound quite as defined. I guess I’m partial to the ‘tube’ shape over a bulkier S4. However the S4s and X10s feel more sturdy in their build quality. The Image S2m’s cable feels a little flimsy, but only time will tell if that’s an actual issue or not.
Making and receiving calls with the iPhone is the same as other headsets, call clarity and volume are good, even if only using one earphone. You can connect and disconnect calls with the touch of a button on the cord. Klipsch claims that the S2ms work with Skype, although I did not test for that.
The Image S2m headset is great if you want decent sound but have a very limited budget. If you are upgrading from the included Apple earbuds, it’s a no-brainer. You will not regret getting these. Incidently, for iPod Touch or regular iPod users, Klipsch makes these without the mic for $50.
In the current economic climate, the S2m headset is a bargain and a half.
