iPod docks have been around for quite a while now. Only recently have companies started incorporating the ‘Works with iPhone’ certification to their products. Many of the newly released docks have this capability now. JVC’s NX-PN7 is no exception. Not only does their dock work with an iPhone, it can work with 2 iPhones!

This is the first dock I’ve reviewed that has two docking slots. I must say, it definitely is handy. While you play music from one iPod or iPhone, another one can be charging right alongside it. This eliminates having to use the other wall plug and extra cabling. Even when the dock is turned off, it still charges devices.

This dock is definitely an all-around dock. It has radio built in, which is really nice. You can display the time on it and even use it as an alarm clock. It is a little bigger than some which means it isn’t as portable. It’s more of a ’stay in one spot’ dock that does its job well. Even though it’s a little bit bigger, it makes up for it when it comes to the sound department.

I was a little bit skeptical about how good this dock would sound. It looked sort of plain and I thought it would just have average sound. I was actually quite surprised when it turned out to be above-average sounding. You can even control the bass and treble to tweak the sound to your liking. It comes with a remote as well that gives you access to all the basic controls as well as the bass/treble adjustments and alarm clock setting.

There are buttons on the outside of the dock to control either iPod A or B , volume, snooze, and an on/off button. There is even a motion sensor on the front that reacts to your hand passing in front of it. Pretty cool. JVC has added a ‘Sound Turbo’ button whose operation is self-explanatory. I found at lower volume, this feature worked well but tended to distort the music at higher volumes. The rear of the dock has an antenna jack for better radio reception. There is also a standard headphone jack for AUX-in and a video out as well. This means you can hook this dock up to your TV and watch video through your iPod with the aid of an RCA cable.

One of the cool features this dock has is a transparent plastic sort of backing that has blue LED’s beneath it. When the dock is on the blue LED’s come on and flicker, creating a really cool effect on this transparent piece.

If you’re in the market for an all-around dock, this one has pretty much all the features you could want and sounds great to boot. It is priced similarly to competing docks, if not better considering the functionality it provides. The NX-PN10 definitely surpassed my expectations!
