Today we’ve got a bit of a unique case that we’re reviewing. We all have heard the debates that cell phone radiation causes cancer, etc, etc. One company, Pong Research, has actually done something about it. They’ve created the first iPhone radiation-blocking case. Using this case significantly cuts down the amount of radiation absorbed into your head. Pong has even made it into a fairly stylish iPhone accessory.

This case comes in a couple different colors, either black or green. They sent me the green one which I quite like. It definitely pops when you pull it out of your pocket. The case is silicone based which does present a bit of a problem for sticking inside your pocket. It isn’t as bad as some I’ve used though. It has cutouts for the headphone jack, camera, vibrate switch and the dock connector. The sleep button and volume buttons are covered but still easy to push through the case. Additionally, there’s a different texture on the back of the case that consists of a bunch of small circles. It really makes the case feel good in your hand and gives extra grip.
On the outside, this case looks just like many other run of the mill silicone cases. The inside, however, is quite different. On the inner surface is a bunch of copper, strategically placed to direct radiation away from your head. It draws the microwave radiation to it and directs it upward and outward. This is good news for anyone worried about cell phone radiation. Testing found that an iPhone 3GS with the Pong case on it reduced radiation by 65.7% from the same phone without the case installed. The copper is also installed underneath silicone on the inside, so there’s no chance of it peeling off either.

After using this case for a couple weeks, I can say I really liked it minus one flaw. There is a bit of wiggle room inside the case. It is not as snug as most silicone cases. It actually was a bit frustrating trying to push the sleep button on the top and have the phone slide down in the case. Additionally, it was tricky to access the volume switch through the hole. I found myself pulling the top corner of the case off to put the phone on vibrate. This isn’t that big of deal as the case is easily removable.

Overall, this is a very cool case with some very new and exciting technology. If you’re at all concerned about cell phone radiation, and you can get over a couple small design flaws, this case would be a good investment!
