Can an iPhone case keep you from catching the flu this season? Technically no, however that question may not be as farfetched as it sounds.
Consider the iSkin solo FX SE case. It’s a semi-soft plastic case that molds to the iphone shape offering good protection from the scrapes and bumps of life. Some (but not all) of the buttons are covered and the ports are left open for easy connections. However the headphone port is tricky if your plug is on the large side.
The surface is non-slip, so there is little to no paranoia about dropping it. It felt secure in my hands at all times. This case has a multi-circle design pattern etched into the plastic which helps the grip factor. It doesn’t make much of a fashion statement, though. After a while, I didn’t even notice it.
The quality of the construction is first-rate. I fits perfectly. The iPhone buttons that are covered are still easy to use. Although the older, fatter iPhone USB connector fits the bottom port opening, it is sized to better fit the newer, slimmer connector. As I said, the earphone port opening is too small for some brands, so if you already own an after-market pair of earphones, check before buying.
The case comes with a peel-off screen protector much like a lot of cases on the market. If it is similar to those protectors, it should work just fine, but I don’t use them myself. I prefer the glass uncovered.
By the way, this case – as well as many other cases – fits beautifully into the iSkin revoClip, a hard plastic holster that can either act as a stand or clip to your belt. There are way too many clip holsters that will not accommodate a case of any size. Not so, here. Everything works together great. The holster even leaves ports open and has a camera opening so you don’t have to remove the iPhone from the holster if you don’t want to. It’s just a cool way companies like iSkin think about how one of their accessories might work in tandem with another. That’s smart.
Now back to the flu comment at the beginning of this review. The iSkin solo FX SE case is embedded with Microban, which resists the growth of bacteria. In a market glutted with look-alike cases of similar quality and price, this is a good thing to have to set you apart. And I have to admit, I’ve been using this case for about a month. In that time, I have not caught the flu or a cold of any kind. I know, this case will not prevent me from getting sick, but it does make you wonder…
