Comwave and Cisco Clash Over “iPhone” Trademark
January 29, 2007 by dennis
Comwave, the same company that’s battling it out with Apple over the “iPhone” trademark ownership in Canada, has sent a warning letter to Cisco, whose subdivision, Linksys, is also manufacturing VOIP phones under the “iPhone” brand (Linksys’ “iPhone” family currently contains four different phones, you can find out more about them on the official product page).
Said Comwave’s president, Yuval Barzakai: “Our legal department has put Cisco on notice. We will see how they react and then gauge our next action.”. Cisco confirmed that it’s aware of this situation and is currently investigating the issue.
It yet remains to be seen how this impacts the Apple vs. Comwave affair, but Comwave is clearly showing its teeth, possibly to better prepare for a lawsuit with Apple.
