Arizona State University Students Not Impressed by iPhone

The Arizona Republic reports on a recent student poll that they’ve conducted in Arizona State University. Vast majority of the students, ten out of 12, said they won’t be getting the Apple iPhone right after it comes out, mostly citing previous commitments to another mobile carrier, or the price of the phone.
“It’s too much, too soon,” said Zack Cann, a 21 year old senior from Phoenix. “I would be willing to buy it later on down the line when it becomes more widely available and the stuff that I have goes out of date.”
“The biggest deal is whether I am gonna have to jump carriers on my cellphone plan in order to have it,” Reaves said. “If you try and limit your market like that, you stand a chance of shooting yourself in the foot.”
Not everyone was in the same boat though, as certain students were willing to spend $499 or $599 for the Apple iPhone.
“Well, I don’t really like my phone anymore,” said Scottsdale resident TC Mulcahy, 19, a freshman. “It’s already out of date and everything, but $499 for an iPod and a phone, I’d pay for it.”
“I would definitely look into buying the iPhone because it’s just a combination of things,” said Krista Rogers from San Diego, 20 years old. “I would buy it. I don’t think it’s that expensive.”
This is not a big disappointment for Apple, as their target is 10 million sold units in the first year, and if two out of 12 mobile phone users will adopt the iPhone after it comes out they’re certainly on the right track for that.
Furthermore, within that year quite a lot of people are bound to break or lose their current mobiles, or their commitment with the current mobile service providers will end.
