Unlimited Music Downloads on Rogers and iPhone in Canada?
February 12, 2007 by dennis
Rogers Wireless, the exclusive Apple iPhone distributor in Canada, launched a new unlimited music download plan. For CDN $20 a month (USD ~$17), its customers can download an unlimited number of songs, playable both on cell phones and the computer, but only for as long as the customers remain on the subscription plan.
This is a rather interesting development, as this plan might go directly against, or rather as an alternative to the iTunes Music Store where customers have to pay for each music track on a per-download basis. This also goes in line with Omnifone’s recent announcement of a similar service, MusicMatch, in Europe.
It is yet unclear whether this plan will also be available to iPhone owners, as it could create some potential problems between Apple and Rogers Wireless, which is a subdivision of American AT&T. We’ve sent a request for additional information to Rogers Wireless, and we’re going to keep you updated.
