Quantum Research Suspects Apple iPhone Uses Their Technology
February 19, 2007 by dennis
Southampton, UK based touch sensor engineering firm Quantum Research has a message to Apple: “We will be looking very carefully at the iPhone.” Apple is already locked in one patent infringement lawsuit with Quantum Research, and the firm is ready to bring on another one.
According to Duncan Bryan, licensing director at Quantum Research: “The description of the iPhone suggests it uses a rear-surface touch screen, and has proximity sensing which can tell if it is held to the ear. That’s a Quantum Research capability.”
If Apple is indeed using this technology with the iPhone, already licensed to Motorola, they would be infringing Qantum Research’s patent. Apple is already using charge transfer technology in some of the iPod models, which caused Quantum Research to start the previous, ongoing lawsuit.
