Palm Acquisition Almost Complete: Will Apple Buy It?

March 20, 2007 by dennis

According to inside sources, the seemingly imminent acquisition of Palm PDA devices manufacturer by one of its rivals is almost complete now.

According to several reports, Morgan Stanley is overseeing this acquisition deal. Among the main contenders for Palm’s acquisition are Nokia and Motorola, although, rumor has it, Apple could be also interested in acquiring Palm’s business which has been going downhill in the last few years, in order to strengthen its position in the mobile phones market.

Palm Treo

While Palm was able to sell a fairly large number of Treo handsets, its Palm OS is becoming outdated, and Palm’s previously leading position in the PDA market was reduced to a mere shadow of itself by products coming from bigger and more well-funded rivals.

Thanks: Unstrung.

The premise is absurd. The iPhone version of OS X is lightyears ahead of Symbian/Palm/Windows Mobile– you name it. MOT will spend billions buying Palm and watch Palm’s marketshare drop to zero over the next two years (phone contract period).

    Definitely NOT Apple.

Kinda sad to see Palm bought out. Almost certainly means the death of the Palm OS (which I like for PDAs – Windoze Mobile is horrible).
