Quake 3 Arena on iPhone?
August 5, 2007 by dennis
Our friends over at Pocket Picks report that id Software founder John Carmack confirmed that id Software, the games company that’s responsible for the mega popular Wolfenstein, Doom, and Quake franchises, is looking into Apple iPhone as a possible mobile patform to develop games for.
If they actually decide on doing that, our money would be on classic Doom shooter on the iPhone. Or maybe Quake 3 Arena? As a matter of fact, just recently John Carmack announced that id Software is currently developing a browser based version of Quake 3 Arena, called Quake Zero.

Nevertheless, whichever it will be, Apple will greatly benefit if it signs up id Software to port some popular games for the iPhone. In fact, iPhone has a chance to become a fairly popular gaming device, at least if it appeals to the gamers, which it strives to do with games such as Bejeweled recently released for free for iPhone owners by Popcap Games, and now a potential id Software deal that could bring some first person shooter classics to the iPhone.
In conclusion, Apple iPhone has a chance to become so to say a successful “Nokia NGage”: a device that’s suitable for gaming, communications, and other things. And that could be good for Apple investors that might have a sleeper portable mobile game solution waiting to be discovered by its owners.
