99 Cents iPhone

An interesting marketing campaign was chosen by 99 Cents Only Store in Wetchester, a suburb of Los Angeles — the first nine customers at the store on Thursday August 9 2007 were able to buy an Apple iPhone for only 99 cents to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original store’s opening.
Naturally, a line formed outside the store (and some folks were waiting for more than two days — not as long as those trying to get an iPhone on the first day it was out, but still close), TV journalists arrived to film the crowd, while the store received over 100 “is this a joke?” calls, so the promotion worked out well.

The streaming video of the CBS news report is available here.
