id Software Doom on iPhone!

More great games for the iPhone keep coming. The latest addition is an iPhone port of the classic id Software game Doom. And while the controller doesn’t work as of yet and there’s no audio, you can at least check out the demo games and be sure that a more functional version will be coming sometime soon…

Installation note: you’ll need a Doom .wad file.

WAD files go in /var/root/Media/Doom . If the app quits immediately after launch, there was probably an issue with the wad file. If you’re using the shareware wad, make sure it’s named doom1.wad . If that doesn’t help, execute the app from the shell so you can see the printf()s.

    How do you install it. Now all we need is Wolfenstein 3d!

    Make sure your iPhone is already jailbreaked (use this tool if ya ain’t jailbreaked yet – http://www.iphoneworld.ca/news/2007/08/12/iactivator-iphone-jailbreak-hack-mac/)

    After that:
    1) download the iPhone Doom distribution.
    2) download the Doom .wad file — or use your own copy if you have a full version Doom .wad file.
    3) Place both on your iPhone… wad file goes to /var/root/Media/Doom

    That’s about it, now you can see Doom demo games.

    And yes, you’re 100% right about Wolfenstein… maybe even 200% right… Between the two, I’m not sure which one I’ve spent more time playing:)

    There were lots of great ideas, but no, nothing so far.

    dont bother installing, the controller doesnt work, but when they get it working do it!!

    I have downloaded DOOM classic from the app store, but it does not seem like the whole game, the last mission is just two deathknights, then you have to die and it gives text about how u are in hell and must go through and then credits come up. Having played the original on the PC back in the day I know this is not the complete game, this there a problem with my game or does it just not work.
