August 16, 2007 by dennis
HarperCollins Publishers today announced it will make digital book content available for Apple iPhone mobile platform. As a pilot program, samples from 14 new titles, most debuting in August and September, will be made available online in an iPhone-compatible format through HarperCollins’ Browse Inside application at http://mobile.harpercollins.com/.
The adaptation of this technology for Apple iPhone users marks the latest advancement in HarperCollins’ leading digital efforts, and emphasizes the company’s commitment to reach consumers on the Web by providing content for a variety of platforms.
Browse Inside is an application that allows consumers to sample pages of HarperCollins titles online. It has been adapted for the iPhone platform by LibreDigital, a division of NewsStand, Inc. LibreDigital is a strategic partner in the ongoing development of HarperCollins’ global digital warehouse and its application to the Internet.

iPhone users visiting http://mobile.harpercollins.com will be able to view the first 10 pages of chapters one and two of 14 books in the initial offering. They can then click to buy or pre-order the book from a list of retailers.
“Reaching consumers on mobile devices and the Internet is increasingly important for publishers,” said Brian Murray, President of HarperCollins Publishers Worldwide. “Our digital warehouse gives us the unique opportunity to quickly offer access to our titles on the newest technology, and we encourage people to provide feedback about their experiences.”
