Rumor Bin: More iPhones? Much more, apparently.
November 3, 2007 by Patrick
Recently a blog covered an interview between the blogger himself, and an “Apple Informant”, and they talked about three key things.
First of which, was that Apple has a goal for itself, of shipping 50 million iPhones or iPhone models by the end of 2009, and the current expectations are that only a mere 3 to 4 million for the 8GB iPhone, the only one available currently, would be sold by the end of 2007. The point is, if that’s the case, where are the other 46 million iPhones? Apple would likely have to make up atleast one new device to even think of that goal.

Second, it was brought up that Apple does indeed plan on pumping out two more models of iPhones, making the current 8GB model the mid-range of the trio. The other two were mentioned as a lower and higher end version of the same. No time frame was mentioned, and this is ofcourse, unofficial and a rumor, but it was said that the other two would join the market by at the latest Fall 2008.
The third and final bit of information brought up was that the lower end model would indeed have no touch-based screen, and that’s all that was clarified.
We can’t confirm any of this information, but there are good points in the mix. Apple, at this rate, could not achieve it’s 50 million quota by 2009 unless it really set its eyes on the prize.
Thanks: David Sieger
