T-Mobile to start Germany’s iPhone sale in Cologne, at one shop, at midnight.

November 6, 2007 by Krzysztof

T-mobile has decided to offer the iPhone in only one shop on release, first. Apparently German mobile operator is preparing itself to create a PR event on a big scale, like the one on the first day of iPhone’s US sale.

The shop that is chosen is the Telekom-Shop at 83 Schildergasse Street. The official iPhone sale will start there right after midnight on November 9, 2007. The rest of Germany will have to wait until regular opening hours of about 700 remaining retail outlets. Allegedly there are some impatient customers who are planning to visit Cologne just to buy their coveted handset. They will be traveling for up to 22 hours by bus from Berlin, Hamburg and Munich.

T-mobile has announced that it has made all possible preparations to protect its customers who decided to wait for their hand-set during the night from cold autumn weather. The retail staff has also been specially trained to cope with “iPhone-rush” of impatient customers.

Despite of other retailers attempts to win the right to sell iPhone in Germany (eg. Gravis, Karstadt), T-mobile remains the only iPhone distributor.
The “Kult Handy” will be offered in Germany to those iPhone fans who will decide to sign two year’s contract with T-mobile. They will choose from three tariff plans costing 49,-€, 69,- € or 89,- €. The hand-set itself will cost 399,-€. The T-mobile activation fee for iPhone amounts to 25,-€.
