iPhone is Getting Java Support

November 16, 2007 by David

Currently iPhone does not support java applications being run on the device, though that may change soon.

A Sun Microsystems official said he believes that Java is going to be ported for the iPhone. He said that Apple is planning to release an SDK for the iPhone in early 2008, which would result in Java ME (an open-source phoneME version of Java) being created for the device.

Java support on the iPhone is a long sought thing for Java developers, but so far Apple has refused to support them. An effort, which would allow many currently popular Java applications to be run on the device, as well as great compatibility.

I believe the iPhone’s CPU actually has a Java VM embedded in it. Its just not utilised.
