iPhone v1.1.3 installer.app jailbreak

In some great news for people not comfortable with using previous method of iPhone v1.1.3 jailbreak that required a USB connection to the computer, now one can jailbreak an iPhone v1.1.3 via Installer.app and WiFi (or even EDGE) connection.

To upgrade you need to have a jailbreaked v1.1.1 OR v1.1.2 iPhone. The jailbreak of course requires you having the latest installer.app and the BSD subsystem should be up to date. And of course, the autolock setting in general options should be set to “never”.

After launching installer.app add http://ijailbreak.com/repo.plist to your sources list, and after refreshing your sources list install “iJailBreakMobile”.

After running iJailBreakMobile you will be asked to select a few options, such as your mobile’s current firmware, etc… CrunchGear who broke this story reports that it will take around 45 minutes (since the new firmware is being downloaded to your iPhone), during which time the software might look like it’s giving errors, but that’s apparently normal.

After all is done, your iPhone will either reboot to v1.1.3 firmware, or nothing will happen (in the latter case you could try again).

Apparently, if your iPhone was previously unlocked it should remain unlocked after going through this procedure, since the v1.1.3 jailbreak hack does not modify the iPhone’s baseband.

Also, after all is done, you might want to download and run an application called “Remove 1.1.3 Upgrade Data”, since it cleans up the sufficiently large temporary files that the upgrade left behind.

As to why you might not want to upgrade — apparently some popular third party iPhone programs stop working after installing v1.1.3 jailbreak, so you will probably need to wait for updated versions for at least some of your apps.
