Rogers New Wireless Rates Confirmed, No Word on ‘Unlimited Data’.

Those hoping for rumors of Rogers new data rates being a hint towards the iPhone finally being available in Canada in the coming months may be disappointed. Although there has been no official word yet on whether Rogers will, in fact, be lowering data rates in the upcoming month, there are details that certain Value Packs will increase in cost starting February 5th for New, and March 4th for Existing, Customers.

The Communicate and Every Call Value Packs will increase in price by $1, while no changes to services provided are scheduled, confirmed a Customer Service Representative at Rogers this morning.
While there has been much speculation that Rogers would be lowering their rates by offering ‘unlimited data’ packages, there has been no official word the subject. Given the billing cycles of Rogers Customers they would have to be informed of any billing changes to existing packages at least 30 days in advance of any changes. The pricing and services offered in the alleged ‘New’ service packages would deem the above listed Communicate Value Package obsolete.
If the new services and pricing do show up on February 5, this would certainly put the spotlight on them for an upcoming iPhone Launch in Canada. However, given that they are releasing details about this particular increase, while no details are available about any new Data Service plans, it seems unlikely. iPhoneWorld.ca will continue to research into this mystery.
