Wozniak: What’s needed for iPhone to reach its 10 million target
January 31, 2008 by David
According to Steve Jobs’ plans, iPhone should reach 1% all mobile phone market share by the end of 2008. But this is no easy task. Steve Wozniak, Apple co-founder has revealed what he thinks Apple should do with the iPhone.
To reach 1% of mobile market would mean selling over 10 million iPhones, since it is estimated that there will be around 1.25 billion mobiles in 2008.

Even though iPhone starting sales were quite impressive, it is the next 12 months that matter most. In addition, the fact that apple dropped price on 8GB model and discontinued 4 GB model was a slight concern for many analysts and fans that iPhone is not doing as well as expected. There was even more concerns between signups to carriers and the actual number of handsets shipped, suggesting a build-up of retail inventory, a grey market of unlocked phones or combination of both.
Still, despite that, it is widely believed among analysts, that iPhone will reach its goal of over 10 million units through the combination of entering new markets and the release of the next generation model.
Steve Wozniak confessed that he loves his iPhone but he doesn’t use it so much as a phone. According to Wozniak, the voice quality of the iPhone is not what he requires from a phone. He also requires his phone to have Bluetooth, so that he can use it hands free in his car. He also wants things like voice dial and one-button turbo-dialling. These are the things that have been available on mobile phones for years.
Wozniak says that the iPhone is great, but who wants to carry around an iPhone and another mobile?
Steve Jobs said that iPhone would be revolutionary new mobile phone. Yet so many simple features are missing. Hopefully Jobs will learn, and introduce a truly revolutionary phone again: iPhone v2. And not just adding 3G support and leaving everything else the same.
