Possibly an iPhone developers simulator coming with iPhone SDK?

While digging in iPhone v1.1.3 firmware code (which is almost identical on the iPod Touch), TUAW’s Erica Sadun discovered that there’s now a new product identifier included, as well as a hint at a possible iPhone developers simulator that could be introduced with the iPhone SDK.
The code she extracted has references to;
Platforms = (M68, N82, simulator);
Platforms = (N45);
Now M68 is iPhone, N45 is iPod Touch, N82 is the unknown (possible sibling for the iPhone — the coveted 3G iPhone, maybe?), and simulator is most likely an iPhone simulation program built in into SDK.

This would be a real heaven for developers, especially if you don’t have the device always available (or at all), and that would of course mean that more people could create native applications for iPhone. However it still is a rumor so don’t get excited too much. We only have to wait until the iPhone SDK launch later this month.
Other finds by Erica include a possible Shark performance monitoring system debugging suite release with the SDK.
The most unfortunate part of Erica Sadun’s reporting is that she’s hearing a rumor that the iPhone SDK could be delayed until WWDC. But let’s just hope for the best, and remember that rumors have a tendency to be just that - rumors.
Thanks: TUAW
