SDK Watch: Rumors and Reports

iPhone users around the world are waiting for the imminent release of Apple’s iPhone SDK, or System Developers Kit. The SDK will allow developers to code programs for the iPhone without a need for the iPhone to be jail-broken and with sanctioning from Apple.

Steve Jobs announced the release of the SDK last October, and has been slated for a February release. As February is slowly winding down, many people are wondering exactly when the release will take place and what will the SDK consist of.
News has began trickle in and we here at iPhone World have compiled all the info into one source, our new “SDK Watch”.
Tiny-Code.com, a repository for unofficial apps for iPhone has recently announced that they are no longer updating their repositories, and are now working with Apple and the upcoming SDK. The site mentions some interesting things. First is that their sidebar lists “targeting fw 1.1.4 Alpha 2″, most likely referring to a yet-to-be released iPhone firmware upgrade. Also, the website mentions “you should see us soon on iTunes.” This very well means, as expected, applications will be downloaded and purchased through the iTunes Store.
Part of the SDK could include a “simulator” for testing code, either completely software based or using an iPhone connected to a computer via USB.
Finally, The company who does the A/V work for Apple’s Macworld events have apparently been signed by Apple for the last week of February, which would be in line with an iPhone SDK announcement.
Unfortunately, no official word has been made from Apple, but February is coming to a close and still no word since October. We will all find out soon enough, and we here at iPhone World will give you the low down on any information we get our iPhone-clad hands on.
