Parallel Kingdom: first iPhone MMORPG is using GPS!
March 20, 2008 by dennis
The cool chaps from Pocket Gamer whipped up an interview with the developers of Parallel Kingdom — an upcoming MMORPG for the iPhone and Android powered mobile devices (its official website doesn’t mention the iPhone, but the interview does).
Not only would this be the first MMORPG for iPhone, but this online medieval role playing game should be the first game out there to utilize iPhone’s more or less recently added Google Maps’ pseudo-GPS feature!

According to its description, Parallel Kingdom places the virtual world on top of the real world using the GPS inside your phone. You can attack, dance, hug or team up with anyone around you. Set up trade routes, craft items or even create your own kingdom.
You can mine resources, build buildings, craft items, trade goods, meet people, start kingdoms, lead wars, and explore the world. Wherever you are, you can open your phone and play, whether you’re on the bus, walking down the street, or at home. Anywhere in the world, any time of the day. Parallel Kingdom never stops, you play it when you want and where you are.
The game is due to be released later on this year, once the first Android handsets will land on the market. But you can already sign up for the beta — the game’s developers are currently looking for beta testers. Check out the video below for more.
