Rogers will provide iPhone in Canada

As we previously reported, Rogers is indeed bringing iPhone to Canada. Finally, the wait is over! They still have not revealed pricing or any other information about the device, except that its coming out later this year. We can just guess that by the time it is released we will have 3G models out.
“We’re thrilled to announce that we have a deal with Apple to bring the iPhone to Canada later this year,” said president Ted Rogers in a brief statement. “We can’t tell you any more about it right now, but stay tuned.”
However, not everyone was so excited about Rogers’s statement. Eamon Hoey, a telecommunications consultant from Hoey Associates said “It is too little too late,”. He then added “It is just an indication of how far behind we are on the world markets; this should not be a day of celebration, there should be full recognition that Canada is very far behind our competitors on world markets.
“There was no reason for us not to have the iPhone last year other than the slowness with which wireless companies in general bring new services and products to Canada.”

“In every area we look at in the wireless environment, we are five to eight years behind Europe in introducing new services, products and pricing plans and we could be as many as 10 years behind some of the Asian countries, in particular Japan,” he said.
Still despite this sad truth, it is a great occasion to celebrate, since everyone is going to benefit from that. Even Apple, with fewer models sold for unlocking. We can just hope that the price will not be too inflated.
