Russian iPhone turned out be an iCondom

In a funny twist of events, the previously speculated upon iTunes Music Store launch in Russia turned out to be a carefully planned promotional hoax. As you might recall, we’ve earlier reported that the iPhone might be coming to Russia very soon, due to possible iTunes Music Store launch in this country.

“Billboard ads that could be seen around Moscow, as well as a banner on the website itunes-store.ru, owned and operated by Apple, all state that Apple is currently in the process of preparing and launching the iTunes Music Store in Russia,” we wrote, while the director of Russia’s biggest mobiles retailer Euroset was quite optimistic about this prospect.

It says “iSoon”.

And yes, everyone thought that iTunes Music store will be coming very soon. In fact, it was supposed to happen on April 21, after which launching the iPhone in a country where even the elites are in love with it seemed quite logical. Like this screen from one of the websites claimed.

But when that day came what did the Russians get? iPhone, iTunes, another iPod? Your guess was not right!

In fact, this was entirely different to what was advertised or what people expected. The news about upcoming iTunes in Russia, turned out to be just viral advertising for a condom!

A Russian company called Contex used the Apple-like advertisement for their product: condoms. And these are not any ordinary condoms. They are called iCondoms.

They come in four different varieties: iMemory, iLight, iFood and iTree. To see the detailed description of each see this video:

Sadly, these revolutionary condoms are just an Apple parody, since the store is actually selling regular ones.

Another mystery is what happened to the websites used to promote the launch of iCondom: itunes-store.ru and imacintosh.ru. Earlier registered contact information was rusupport@apple.com for imacintosh.ru, while itunes-store.ru referred to administrative address support@apple.ru (with apple.com belong to Apple Inc. and apple.ru belonging to its Russian distributor, Apple IMC). Now, instead of those iSoon logos, one was redirected to appleinsider.ru (which does not appear to have any connection with appleinsider.com), while the other site is just idle.
