42Mbps Evolved HSPA on 3G iPhone by Xmas?

If there weren’t enough 3G iPhone rumours out there, here’s another one: Australian site ChannelNews quotes an unnamed senior executive of Telstra (who is due to be the official Australian distributor of the device) as saying that:
“We know what is coming we have seen the new device and it will be available on our network as soon as it is launched in the USA. By Xmas this phone will be capable of 42mbs which will make it faster than a lot of broadband offerings and the fastest iPhone on any network in the world.”

Of course, it remains to be seen whether the exec meant Christmas 2008 or 2009 (and was quoted right), but it certainly would be mad cool to have a 42Mbps connection on your 3G Evolved HSPA (Wikipedia) iPhone (if only for the coolness factor since one does wonder what you’d need all that bandwidth for).
Via: Engadget (who note that the aforementioned 42Mbps Evolved HSPA service will only be available in Australia on X-mas 2009)
