Teens detained, banned (or not, depending on the story) from Apple stores for installing Raging Thunder on an iPhone test unit

Apparently something as innocent as installing a third party iPhone racing game on a demonstration unit in an Apple Store can cause you to be detained for a few hours, by Apple Store security along with the Police, and then be escorted out like a criminal.
At least that’s what a San Jose Mercury News report states, quoting 4 teenagers that underwent this fun procedure in an Apple Store on University Avenue in Palo Alto this past weekend.
The funny part? Their biggest fear was being banned for life from Apple Stores. At least that’s what the manager supposedly told them would happen during their 2 1/2 hours detainment.

However, Apple spokesperson Steve Dowling stated that “They were not banned from that store or any other store.”
At any rate, Palo Alto PD’s Sgt. Sandra Brown confirmed that a police officer was dispatched to the store where the teens were given an “admonishment” by the store’s staff (whatever that means in this 2 1/2 hours long case), although the police officer did not get involved directly and did not make arrests.
Apparently, the teens already walked out of the store when they were called and escorted back in by the manager and the security guard, after which the police arrived and they were given a speech about the dangers of “hacking”.
Probably the only thing this report forgot to mention is that the teens in question had to jailbreak the iPhone if they managed to install Raging Thunder, which is not a really bright idea to do on a store demonstration unit. But the 2 1/2 hours detainment along with police presence does seem like an adequate measure to a slightly inadequate behaviour of some iPhone fans….
