iPhone 2.0 software in early July: free for iPhone owners, $9.99 for iPod Touch owners
June 9, 2008 by James
While the new 3G iPhones will already come with firmware v2.0, owners of older iPhones will have to wait for it to arrive, while iPod Touch owners will have to pay to actually get the upgrade.
The long awaited iPhone v2.0 firmware will be available in early July 2008, said Steve Jobs at the WWDC 2008 today.

While no exact date was given, most likely it will be available for download on the same date as the 3G iPhone will be launched. Users of original iPhones will be able to download it free of charge as usual, while users of the iPod Touch will need to pay $9.99 for the upgrade. Why? We don’t really know, to be honest, and Steve didn’t say a thing about the reasons.
iPhone firmware v2.0 will feature handwriting recognition, third party apps and apps store, scientific calculator, improved music player, lots of enterprise features, and more. Stay tuned for a more expansive look at iPhone v2.0 firmware.
