iPhone firmware v2.1 (not) a real improvement, users say

iPhoneWorld.ca had a chance to test the recently released iPhone firmware v2.1 on a 3G iPhone unit, and the results so far are satisfying. The promised faster iTunes backups and new “Genius” feature are really worth the upgrade.
As for 3G network speeds, no improvements were noticed here since it was not an issue in the first place on our unit…
But when it comes to actual issues, several users that were previously having problems with iPhone are reporting on Apple’s support forums that they are now able to get better mobile internet download speeds, while for many others the iPhone no longer drops calls randomly.
But at the same time yet some other users are reporting that firmware v2.1 has done nothing to fix their iPhone troubles, while even several new issues, such as inability to send SMS messages and the clock application crashing, were discovered after applying the new firmware.

It needs to be noted that upgrading to firmware v2.1 WILL re-jailbreak your device, as such if you’ve modified your iPhone in some way it’s best you wait for a jailbreak solution before upgrading.
P.S. If you’re having Blue Screen of Death issues with iPhone, Windows Vista/XP, and iTunes 8, make sure to get a new version of iTunes 8 and Apple Mobile Device Support driver.
