iPhone Hackers ready to counter Apple’s anti-hacking counter measures

In a classic example of the hunter becoming the hunted, iPhone hacking tools makers have accused Apple Inc. of specifically targeting an exploit that was previously used by the iPhone Dev Team, responsible for the *pwn iPhone jailbreaking and unlocking tools, to do the jailbreaking process.
Currently iTunes 8 is able to detect devices modified by such programs as xPwn, WinPwn, QuickPwn, and other *pwn variations, and upon recognizing such a unit it displays a nice error message as can be seen below.
At the same time, in their blog iPhone Dev developers say that they are eager to counter-counter-measure Apple’s efforts of disabling their efforts, and note that they’re currently working on such a program. iPod Touch firmware v2.1 has been jailbreaked already, but iPhone’s baseband code appears to be a bigger challenge.

So while they’re just not there yet, it is not suggested for owners of previously modified iPhones to use iTunes 8 or upgrade to firmware v2.1.
