Opera was supposed to be default iPhone internet browser

Apparently, before Apple chose its own Mobile Safari to be the default iPhone internet browser, it was in talks with the creators of Opera browser (that might or might not be coming to the iPhone) to have it brought to the iPhone.
After over six months of negotiations the plan was to offer the mobile Opera browser as default to iPhone customers, but something didn’t work out as it was supposed to.
The deal reportedly fell through, and Apple had to resort to using its own Safari mobile browsers on the iPhone.
Opera’s creators, in the meantime, have capitalized on releasing the Opera Mini browser to various mobile handsets manufacturers, instead of tying themselves up with an exclusive deal with Apple. It remains to be seen whether this was a good idea.
