Apple sold 5 million 3G iPhones this quarter: analyst

Apple should sell 5 million iPhone 3G units this quarter (ending on Tuesday), stated Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster in an advisory released to clients today.
Thus Mr Munster has upgraded his expectations — originally he expected only 4.1 million iPhone 3G’s to be sold during this timeframe.
It needs to be noted that it took Apple 71 days since launch to sell 1 million original iPhones after the device was launched in USA last year, so the iPhone 3G is clearly outperforming its predecessor.

At this rate Apple is sure to reach the sale goals it has earlier set for this year.
