United States House of Representatives wants iPhones
October 22, 2008 by James
If you were a lawmaker in the U.S. House of Representatives, how would you spend taxpayers’ money? The answers are:
A) You’d spend it wisely.
B) You’d try not to spend much of it.
C) You’d demand an iPhone.
If you picked C as the answer, you might have a chance in politics.

Washington newspaper The Hill reports that Chief Administrative Office, which oversees communications of the U.S. House of Representatives, has started testing a small number of iPhones due to demands from “a lot of people” to allow using them as primary means of communication (currently, only BlackBerry devices are allowed for secure government communications).
What this means is that if the iPhone will be found secure enough to be used by House of Representatives, each member (and everyone else that works there) will have the right to purchase an iPhone with Member’s Representational Allowance as early as in January, while the CAO will have to install some rather expensive secure servers in order to support these devices… That’s taxpayers’ funds at work for you.
Oh well, at least this request will be resolved in a civilized manner, without member on member martial action as is the case in some other countries.
