Your iPhone seems slow? Blame the ARM CPU that powers it
October 23, 2008 by James
There have been some, although not too many, reports that the iPhone is somewhat slow when opening and running certain applications.
According to Pankaj Kedia, Intel’s director of ecosystems for its ultra-mobility group, the reason for this is the ARM CPU that powers the iPhone.
Mr Kedia is quoted as saying “The shortcomings of the iPhone are not because of Apple. The shortcomings of the iPhone have come from ARM.” Although not only the Apple iPhone is affected, as Mr Kedia went on to say “The smartphone of today is not very smart. The problem they have today is they use ARM.”
Shane Wall, Intel’s VP, added to that: “Any sort of application that requires any horse power at all and the iPhone struggles.”

While this is certainly an attempt to sell more of Intel’s chips, one needs to be reminded that currently Apple is working on its own, in-house, processor for the iPhone, so hopefully any issues that exist will be resolved in the next generation of the product.
