Apple refuses to allow Opera browser on iPhone

A while ago we reported that the developers of Opera browser were quite interested in bringing it over to the iPhone.
However, it seems that this won’t be happening, while Apple is directly responsible for that.
In a recent interview given to the New York Times, Opera Software’s Jon Stephenson von Tetzchner stated that the company has already made an iPhone version of Opera mobile internet browser.
However, if Mr von Tetzchner is to be believed, Apple refused to carry the program in AppStore due to the fact that it would directly compete with Apple’s Mobile Safari browser.

To be honest, we’re rather disappointed with this decision. We believe that more browser choices bring more innovation; more competition always results in better choices for the consumer…. and complete monopoly is never good. That’s why we hope Apple will reverse this decision, unless it wants to become an evil monopoly like Microsoft. How about you?
