Rumour: AT&T to start refurbished (3G?) iPhone sales online

Rumour has it that AT&T has started notifying third parties that it is due to start selling refurbished iPhones through its website in the USA. The company did the same thing earlier this year until it apparently ran out of supplies, so judging from experience one can expect the refurbished units to be heavily discounted.
At the same time, it’s unknown whether the refurbished iPhones would be of the newer 3G kind or whether AT&T will be getting rid of the older firstgen units. Exact prices are not known either.

Either way, the interesting part is that these refurbished iPhones supposedly will be sold only online, through AT&T’s website… And considering that since the iPhone 3G was launched one had to activate it in store, maybe it’s a sign that the old iTunes activation system that was used for firstgen devices is coming back in time for holiday season sales.
We’ll keep you posted.
