Download: Yellowsn0w v0.9.7 iPhone 3G unlocker

A new version of Yellowsn0w, the one and only unlock program for the iPhone 3G, enabling you to use any SIM card with your iPhone 3G, has been updated to v0.9.7. Currently it works with iPhone firmware v2.2.
First the bad news: this new version of Yellowsn0w is still not directly compatible with the recently released iPhone firmware v2.2.1 (more on that here). As such, if you insist on using iPhone firmware v2.2.1, you will need to make a custom firmware file using Pwnage tool and baseband from an older firmware build prior to using Yellowsn0w.
But here are the good news: Yellowsn0w v0.9.7 fixes some more problems with this unlocker based on folks’ bug reports, so if it didn’t work for you before it might actually work now.
As before, Yellowsn0w is available via Cydia or Installer.app, at the following repositories: http://apt9.yellowsn0w.com (Cydia) or http://i.yellowsn0w.com (Installer.app).

And, of course, prior to running it, you will need to run QuickPwn to activate and jailbreak the device.
Installation instructions and additional notes are below…
To use it:
1. Install BossPrefs and Yellowsn0w from Cydia or Installer
2. Disable everything in BossPrefs
3. Reboot your iPhone using BossPrefs
4. Wait for the iPhone to boot up
5. Take out your SIM card and reinsert it back in
6. Wait a moment or two
7. In settings turn on Airplane mode
8. Turn off Airplane mode
9. All done!
Additional notes:
- GOLDEN RULE: If you have a 3G iPhone running 2.2 firmware and you want to keep your ability to use yellowns0w (or the option to use it in the future) do NOT use QuickPwn, and do not use the official ipsw or the iTunes update process without using PwnageTool.
- Yellowsn0w will NOT work with the baseband version (02.30.03) that is present in the recent 2.2.1 update. If you want to use Yellownsn0w you will need to create and restore using a custom .ipsw that will allow you to update safely to 2.2.1 without applying the 02.30.03 baseband update. You’ll then have a 3G iPhone running 2.2.1 with an older baseband version that is still vulnerable to yellowsn0w, following these steps ensures that yellowsn0w will still operate.
- As of v 0.9.4 there’s no longer a one-minute delay step. If you don’t see your carrier when your homescreen comes up, you may still need a SIM reinsert (for now).
- If you are in the U.S. and are trying this with T-Mobile, you must turn off the 3G switch in Settings.
- No PIN support yet
- The unlock will silently quit on anything other than baseband 02.28.00. It detects the wrong version and just quits to avoid any damage. Please double check your Modem Firmware setting in Settings->General->About.
