Infinite SMS iPhone app: send and receive free SMS in USA

Here is a great app for those that live in the USA (sadly it’s not available for residents of other countries, at least not exactly — read on for details). The Infinite SMS iPhone app allows you to send and receive SMS messages for absolutely free.
It does so by providing an interface that is similar to the one that the in-built iPhone SMS app is using, in combination with Google’s GTalk service that as of recently features SMS support.
So what you do is install the program, then either sign up for a free Google account (if you don’t have one yet) or use an existing one, enter your account information, and you’re good to go.
Once you send an SMS message to anyone, Infinite SMS will use GTalk to forward the message to its recipient. Then they can reply, and you’ll receive that reply in Infinite SMS. The great thing is that this app supports both the iPhone and the iPod Touch, so this is an easy way to add texting capability to the latter.
The only problem, is that at the moment you can only receive messages if you live in the USA — although you can send SMS’es to USA-based phone numbers even if you don’t have a U.S. number — you just won’t be able to receive a reply. You can get Infinite SMS for 99 cents from the AppStore, which is a rather great deal considering how much money this useful app can save you. And here’s a YouTube video demo.
