Lo and behold: after releasing Pwnage tool v3.0, the iPhone Dev Team have released a jailbreak / unlock hack for iPhone/iTouch firmware v3.0!

Called redsn0w by its creators, this free program will allow you to jailbreak and unlock the Apple iPhone 2G (original iPhone), the Apple iPhone 3G, and the iPod Touch (both first and second generation). It provides the same functionality that the older unlock hack QuickPwn did, but with support for firmware v3.0

Please note that this version of redsn0w (v0.7 for Mac and v0.71 for Windows) does not unlock the new iPhone 3GS, so don’t even try to use it if you have one!

Please also note that if you’ve already used yellowsn0w to unlock the iPhone 3G this program will not work for you at this stage (explanation on why it won’t work is below).

redsn0w iphone unlock hack

redsn0w is available for both Windows and Mac powered computers, but there’s some issues with Mac PPC support for now, so technically it only works with Intel Macs if you’ve got an Apple computer (that should be fixed in later versions of the program).

NOTE: please read important release notes below before downloading and running this program.

IMPORTANT: OFFICIAL RELEASE NOTES

1. GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a 3G iPhone with yellowsn0w and rely on yellowsn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should NOT use redsn0w right now. Ultrasn0w (the 3G carrier unlock) is not included with this release and therefore your baseband will be locked and unable to use an operator other than the official one it was bought for. UltraSn0w will be released via APT (cydia and icy) soon. If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.0 carrier unlock works with this redsn0w release.
2. Yellowsn0w in its current form will NOT work with the baseband version that is present in the 3.0 update, you will need Ultrasn0w, which will be released sometime soon, Ultrasn0w will work with all iPhone 3G models (but not 3GS), even ones that were previously unlockable, Ultrasn0w (when available) will be released via APT (this means you will be able to get it via Cydia or Icy).
3. Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
4. Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
5. At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the latest version of redsn0w.
6. This app is suitable for the recent 3.0 release
7. redsn0w will NOT work for the iPhone 3GS.
8. redsn0w WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch, iPod touch 2G and the iPhone 3G (not the iPhone 3GS).

To use redsn0w simply upgrade the device in iTunes to firmware version 3.0 and run redsn0w to activate and jailbreak the device (and if you are using an original iPhone 2G, it will unlock it too!)

Hi i have an iphone 3g, and i already have my iphone jailbroken with 3.0 firmware, im just having a really hard time trying to unlock it for t-mobile, i have tried musclenerd's way and i just do not understand at all how to do it, i have windows. so please help.

dude just restore it to original 3.0 and download red snow. while running red snow just check the box beside unlock and it will do everything for you. I just did it right now and its working with t-mobile.

Folks, Unlock feature is *not* possible with Redsn0w, we will have to wait till Ultrasn0w is released.

hi i have upgraded my iphone 3g 2.2.1 to 3.0 officially from itunes 8.2
whe updated was completed my fone got stuck n it is nt unlocking
i had never tried to nlcked it although it was jailbreaked
i use sim carrier provided by universal-sim.com to unlock it
my iphone is not appearing in itunes too there is a message to unlock my iphone using official sim card
i live in pakistan
what should i do now???

hey all i have iphone with 2.2v. and i want to upgrade it the cydia in my mobile give me a msg Which wrote in it "redsn0w is comparable to QuickPwn. it is cross-platform and supports jaibreaking 3.0 on all devices (except obviously, the new 3gs), then the other msg give a steps to download redsn0w 0.7 for windodows or mac. this will come in the form of a (compressed).zipfile.
then it;s order me to use itunes to upgrade to te latest firware. redsn0w runs on alraedy upgraded un-jailbroken iphone>
that's the msg but i'm Afraid to do that i don't know if that mein that my iphone have the yallowsn0w program or there the redsn0w one so plz help me

First you need to upgrade
then run redsn0w to jailbreak
then run Cydia to install ultrasn0w
then run ultrasn0w to unlock

If you forgot to restore your iPhone before updating an unlocked iPhone, is it possible to restore/unlock it? My iPhone currently has a picture of iTunes and a USB on the screen. Itunes does not recognize the iPhone when it is plugged in I get the following error in iTunes "iTunes Error - iTunes cannot activate your iPhone because the SIM card is not inserted or a SIM PIN is required. Disconnect your iPhone, make sure the SIM card is inserted correctly and, if you use a SIM PIN, tap Unlock to enter it, and then reconnect your iPhone." I have tried inserting a SIM Card from my other iPhone but it is not working. Any advice regarding how to proceed?

Used redsn0w. I have cydia installed but no carrier service or internet.

Thank you for that. I must sound so stupid but I need to Run Cydia in Hacker mode and Add the repo repo666.ultrasn0w.com --- even if I don´t have internet or wifi ?

I tried opening Cydia before and I click search and it just goes back to my springboard.

You *must* have WiFi to download ultrasn0w.. without internet you can't download something off the internet:)

I found the solution for that.

People without network or wifi can download ultrasn0w to their computer while the iPhone is connected via USB.

Execute the program and viola - you have an unlocked phone within seconds.

it work fine i dont see the fuss al about you just have to follow the instruction
you should ind the firmware what you using at the moment and put it on redsn0w then it would be processing and it shall be fine from there

Well, you will need to get a firmware for iTouch 3.0 (through Apple or elsewhere) and then again use redsn0w... It can jailbreak iPod Touch no problem:)

I'm trying to jailbreak my ipod touch 2nd generation, I have redsn0w 0.7.2 for Macs and the 3.0 firmware, HOWEVER, every time I follow the steps, the downloading always stops right at "Waiting to reboot." I'm pretty sure I have the right firmware (7A341) and I've tried both redsn0w 0.7.2 and redsn0w 0.8. Any suggestions?

I used the program to jailbreak and unlock my first generation iPhone. Now my mac will not recognize my phone. I cannot update any programs on it, sync with iTunes or sync with iPhoto. I welcome your advice.

Hi, just got an iPhone 3G a couple months back. i got it jailbroken straight away. btw i'm a new to the iphone scene. so here goes....

My iPhone's jail broken & cydia installed. when ever I try and download an app it always says there's an error warning - "CACHE ERROR"

any suggestions what i should do and how to fix it?
