WiFi Quality on iPhone OS 3.0

Apple released OS 3.0 almost 1 month ago and since the upgrade, I have noticed that the Wi-Fi signal on the phone has degraded somewhat, my router isn’t the best but when I’m at my laptop which is approx 5-10 metres away from the router I can connect fine, but if I try to use my iPhone to quickly check the Stocks or Weather, I notice there is no wireless symbol in the top left where it usually appears and is instead replaced with a small ‘o’ or E (no 3G connectivity where I live) – and it will take around 30 seconds for the app to update.

Over on the Apple Discussion Boards, several threads have been opened regarding the issue, some have said resetting their router a few times fixes the issue, changing settings on both the phone and the router and some people even claim putting the phone in your freezer will resolve the problem!
It’s clear that an upgraded software is required and a large portion of the Apple Community have been saying the 3.1 update that should be announced shortly will resolve any outlying issues however the majority stand by their guns and don’t believe it will make a difference. It is clearly software rather than hardware as my Wi-Fi signal worked a treat before the update. Only time will tell if Apple have made a mistake with the software and more importantly, if it is irreversible otherwise they’re going to get some rather unhappy people especially considering the somewhat hefty pricetag on the 3GS.
