Washington, D.C., Police Chief: Coward iPhone Users!

Washington, D.C., Police Chief Cathy Lanier released a statement of how annoyed she is with iPhone users - almost to the point of calling them cowards. She laments at how the activation of speed camera tracking on devices such as the iPhone and GPS’ (Global Positioning Systems) –one such example of this technology convergence is the PhantomAlert app that alerts motorists about “speed trap” cameras– is a “cowardly attempt to elude the law” and says it is a matter of time before these people are caught.

It would be near impossible to depict a motion against the software that tracks the cameras. “With the Internet and all the new technology, it’s almost impossible to stop the flow of information.” She told The Washington Examiner. Does this statement hint at the desire to regulate internet activity by stopping the free-flow of information? I think such move could only be associated with that of a communist country - although that is another debate entirely.
Founder and CEO of PhantomAlert, Joe Scott replied that 90% of state Police departments in America support his software despite Lanier’s outburst, and that if the Police went against them, it would put the stamp on the envelope that such cameras are in place to seek regular revenue only as opposed the the safety of citizens and controlling speed limits.
